Kaviraj
Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurveda College & Hospital , Ankushpur is the one
and only Ayurveda institute of southern odisha. It is one of the Govt. Ayurveda
College of the state founded on 15th August 1978 under private management with the active
support of Late Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma, Ex -Member of Parliament(Lok
Shabha). Although initially the college was functioning at Chaturbhuja
Dharmasala, Berhampur but in 1980 it was shifted to its own building at Ankuspur
. It is situated at the Aska road (NH 217) about 10 kms from Berhampur railway
station and 24 kms away from Gopalpur –on-sea and spreaded over about 10 acres
land. During its establishment the college was named as Berhampur Ayurveda
College and after the demise of the founder Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma in
the year 1991 it was renamed as Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurveda College
& Hospital , Ankushpur.On the 1st April 1994 the institution was
taken over by the govt. of Odisha, Dept. of Health and Family Welfare and
simultaneously with amalgamation of the Govt. Ayurveda Hospital, Berhampur,
which was functioning inside the campus and was Called KATS Ayurveda College and Hospital, Ankuspur.
The college has made the provision of teaching
and practical training for U.G. Students. Every year, 30 students are being
selected and admitted by the state selection committee constituted by Govt. of
Odisha. The college was running by well-committed & dedicated teachers and
15 Para medical personnel. Now fourteen dept. are running in the college with
35 nos. of teaching faculties and forty non teaching staffs. The college has strength of approximately 180
students.
The college has a good & well equipped
library containing books, journals and periodical. A well maintained Herbal
Garden is present in the campus spreading over about five acres of land
containing valuable species of plants for practical demonstration of students.
The college has a medicine manufacturing unit(Pharmacy) attached to the dept.
of Rasasastra, meant for practical training of the students and supplying
medicines for the OPD and IPD patients.
The hospital which is situated in the campus
consist of Outdoor and Indoor block. Apart from the general treatment in the
hospital specialized Panchakarma Chikitsa has attracted patients from far
distance places from the state , for which hospital has gained a good name.
Good number of surgical patients especially ano- rectal diseases has been
treated and cured by application of Ksharasutra therapy.
Apart from teaching and training to
the students the institution is rendering health services organizing Symposiums
, seminars, Quiz competitions , National Level Programmes like ROTP, IEC, CME
and workshops on different subjects, as a part of academic activities.

Teaching provision
KATS Ayurveda College and Hospital , Ankushpur, Berhampur is
a Govt. College which is affiliated to Berhampur University, Bhanjavihar with
university affilation no. 11676/Dt. 25.06.82. The college offers Ayurvedacharya
(Bachlor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) course recognized by Central
Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi.
Duration of Course
Five and half year including one year of
cumpolsory rotating internship training.
Course Module
The B.A.M.S. Course which is of four and half year duration,
comprising of four professional years. First three having one year each and the
final profession is of one and half year duration.
